The Fairchild C-123K/UC-123B/K Provider Operation Ranch Hand in 1:72 is an injection-molded kit of the American transport aircraft in the version for spraying defoliants in the Vietnam War.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Fairchild Provider transport aircraft in 1:72 from the maker Roden, focused on the version used in Operation Ranch Hand. The package contains parts specific to the spraying version, that is spray nozzles on the wings and the tail and a tank for the reworked cargo hold. Decals for several marking variants are enclosed.
The Fairchild Provider was a twin-engine transport aircraft with a high-set wing and a folding rear ramp, originally derived from a transport glider. The version with auxiliary jet engines under the wing (the K type) had better performance on takeoff and in hot weather. Within Operation Ranch Hand these machines sprayed defoliants over the jungle and the crops in Vietnam, in order to reveal supply routes and hiding places.
On a twin-engine aircraft with a glazed cockpit it pays to sort out the fit of the fuselage and the engine nacelles in advance. Glue the joints with a thin cement for plastic, mask the glazing and paint with an airbrush. The spray nozzles and the tank are typical of this version, so give them attention; the Southeast Asia camouflage with its saturated green and brown shades stands out on a smooth primed base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
