A plastic kit of the Soviet BZ-35 airfield refueling truck in 1:72 scale. The subject is the model 1935 gasoline tanker built on the three-axle ZiS-6 truck, that is on the most powerful Soviet truck of the 1930s. The kit belongs to the extensive range that PST devotes to ZiS vehicles and their bodies.
The BZ-35 was a mobile gasoline station of the Soviet Air Force: it carried aviation gasoline around the airfield and pumped it straight into the aircraft. The tank with its sight glass held 3200 liters and the pump handled around 400 liters per minute. Compared with an ordinary ZiS-6 the vehicle has a shortened left step plate so that the spare wheel fits beside the cab, and a smaller fuel tank moved under the driver's seat. A metal chain trailed behind the vehicle to lead static electricity into the ground. Tankers of this type served with air units throughout the war and were among the most frequently seen equipment on field airstrips.
The ZiS-6 chassis has fine parts in the drive to the rear axles, so dry-fit them and glue them in drops with liquid cement for plastic. Paint the cab, the frame and the tank separately. A dark wash in the seams of the hood and the grille sits well on the uniform dark green finish, together with dust on the wheels and light chipping on the steps and the edges of the fenders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
