A long-range jet airliner in 1:72 scale as a resin kit. The maker is the Czech brand HPH Models, which casts its parts from polyurethane resin into silicone molds under vacuum. On this model the fuselage and the wings are made as large one-piece castings, the glazing is vacuum-formed and the engines are separate resin parts. The decals cover the scheme of the Soviet carrier as well as a Czechoslovak special scheme.
The Il-62 was a Soviet long-range jet airliner and at the time it appeared the largest machine of its kind in the world. It carries four engines in pairs on the sides of the rear fuselage, with the horizontal tail on top of the fin. Because of this arrangement the center of gravity is shifted aft, and the aircraft was therefore given a retractable support strut under the tail so that it would not tip during loading. Besides the Soviet carrier it also flew with Czechoslovak Airlines, one of whose machines appeared in a memorable special scheme.
The large one-piece castings save work on the seams, but they have to be checked against the light before building and any warping straightened by warming them in hot water. Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water because of the mold release agent, glue with cyanoacrylate glue and use respiratory protection when sanding. Cut the vacuum-formed glazing out with a margin and fine-tune it by sanding; it is best glued with a glue for clear parts that does not fog.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a resin kit. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
