A 3D interior decal for building the Soviet fighter Lavochkin La-5 in 1:72 scale from the Russian brand Quinta Studio. It is a printed relief part finished in color on decal paper, which takes the place of laborious painting of the instrument panel and the side walls of the cockpit. The manufacturer also offers a version supplemented by printed resin parts under a separate number. The box gives the La-5 from Zvezda as the target kit.
The Lavochkin La-5 was among the most important Soviet fighters of the Second World War. It came about when the designers installed a powerful Shvetsov radial engine in the airframe of the not very successful LaGG-3, which gave the aircraft speed and rate of climb and made it an equal match for the German fighters. The structure remained largely wooden, which was an advantage in Soviet conditions, because production did not draw on scarce aluminum. The cockpit was cramped and the instrument panel very plain.
3D decals are not applied like an ordinary decal. Paint the surface in the cockpit first and give it a gloss coat, because a decal will not settle on a matte surface. Dip the part briefly in warm water, lift it off the paper and set it in place; the makers recommend helping it with white PVA glue. Then press the shape down carefully with a cotton swab so that the relief follows the surface beneath, and let it dry thoroughly. Do not use solvent-based decal softeners, as they can damage the surface.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
