A plastic kit of the Czechoslovak all-metal Letov S-16 biplane in 1:72 scale from the Czech brand Smer.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of an interwar Czechoslovak bomber and reconnaissance biplane in 1:72 scale. It is released by the Czech brand Smer, which has long devoted itself to classic kits of domestic aircraft. The kit is undemanding in part count and works well as an entry into the subject of First Republic aviation.
The Letov S-16 was designed in the office of Alois Smolik at Letov in Kbely and first flew in 1926. The two-seat biplane of largely metal construction was conceived as a long-range bomber and reconnaissance machine, and it replaced older aircraft with wooden frames. Besides the Czechoslovak Air Force, foreign customers bought it as well: Turkey took the S-16T version, Latvia the S-16L machines, and the float-equipped S-16J version was created for Yugoslavia.
With classic molds, expect to clean up flash and to test the parts dry. A biplane calls for patience: seat the struts, let the cement cure completely and only then add the bracing wires, for instance from fishing line or stretched plastic rod. Spray the fuselage and the flying surfaces before assembly. The silver and khaki schemes of the 1930s come out well with a matte varnish and a light emphasis on the ribbing of the fabric surfaces.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
