An injection-molded plastic model of the Japanese interceptor Mitsubishi J2M5/6 Raiden (Allied designation Jack) in 1:72 scale from the Sword brand. The box allows the late high-altitude versions J2M5 or J2M6 to be built and it is a short-run kit supplemented with resin details. Decals for several Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service machines are enclosed.
The J2M Raiden (thunderbolt) was a land-based interceptor of the Imperial Japanese Navy with a potent air-cooled Mitsubishi Kasei radial engine, built for fast climb and for fighting bombers. The J2M5 version was among the late variants with a modified powerplant for better performance at great altitude, where the aircraft was to intercept high-flying raids. These late versions were produced toward the end of the war and were deployed above all to defend Japanese airspace.
This is a short-run kit better suited to more experienced modelers. Glue the plastic parts with liquid plastic cement, fill and sand the seams; dry-fit the parts before gluing. Wash the resin parts to remove mold release residue, separate them carefully from the casting blocks and bond them with super glue (cyanoacrylate); protect your airways when sanding resin. Apply a primer and paint with an airbrush in thin coats, then bring the panels to life with a light wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
