A plastic kit of the Soviet fire vehicle PMZ-2 built on the three-axle ZiS-6 truck chassis, in 1:72 scale. It is one of the few ways to put prewar Soviet fire-fighting hardware in a display case in a small scale.
The PMZ-2 was not one particular vehicle but a standardized fire-fighting body that Soviet works mounted on whatever truck chassis were available. Most often it was built on the two-axle ZiS-5, but a smaller run got exactly this three-axle ZiS-6 with six-wheel drive and better cross-country ability. The ZiS-6 itself was built from 1933 and is known mainly as a carrier for rocket launchers; in fire-fighting form it carried a pump, hoses, suction hoses and a whole crew on longitudinal benches. PMZ-2 vehicles served with Soviet fire units for almost twenty years and disappeared only in the middle of the 1950s, when modern designs replaced them.
The parts are small in this scale, so cut them out with a sharp knife and glue them with thin cement applied drop by drop. The red body looks best over a light base; without one it stays muddy. The wooden parts of the bed and the benches can be rendered with a light base and a brown wash, and the metal fittings of the pump can be picked out with a dry brush in a metallic shade. Because this is a civilian vehicle on a call, do not overdo wartime weathering and rather add water streaks and dust.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
