1:72 RCAF Silver Maple Leaf Roundels - Odd Sizes

Canadian Silver Maple Leaf roundels, atypical sizes - Aviaeology 1:72

A sheet with the national insignia of the Royal Canadian Air Force aimed at the atypical sizes of the maple leaf roundel of the Silver Maple Leaf series. Roundel sizes had their usual range, but not every machine fitted into it. It is exactly for those cases that the sheet is intended. It is not the markings of one named aircraft or a sheet of maintenance stencils. Anyone who needs the usual sizes reaches for the sheet without a dimension in its designation (ADD72C050), and anyone who needs the largest roundel for ADD72C050-4 with the 84-inch roundel. Check on the box which dimensions the sheet carries.

The real subject

After the Second World War the Royal Canadian Air Force replaced the red center disc of the roundel with a red maple leaf on a white field, and this form lasted until 1965, when it gave way to the eleven-point leaf of the new national flag. The word silver in the name of the series belongs to the species of maple from which the leaf takes its shape - not to the color, which is red. The size differed with the type of aircraft and with the surface the insignia stood on.

Application tips

Decals are not applied with modeling cement. They go onto dried gloss varnish, are seated with water and a decal fixer and, on broken surfaces, with a decal softener, so that the film follows the rivets and panel lines. Cut the individual markings out close to the artwork. Lay the decal on dry first and compare it with a photograph - the whole point of the sheet is that the usual dimension does not fit.

Who the sheet is for

• The modeler whose machine the usual roundel size does not fit
• Conversions and types that no finished marking set covers
• The modeler building a Canadian machine from 1946 to 1965

This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
