A winter Soviet airfield surface in 1:72 scale

This is a scenic base, not a model. Soviet field airfields were surfaced with prefabricated concrete slabs laid side by side into a continuous surface. The result was a surface with a regular grid of joints that looks completely different from the poured concrete of Western airfields, and that is exactly why it is an unmistakable setting for modelers of Soviet and Eastern machines. The winter form adds what is rarely missing from period photographs: remains of snow in the joints and at the edges, trodden snow where there was movement and dark traces where the slabs were cleared.

Use

• Lay the sheets on a flat, firm board; the slightest unevenness under them shows.
• Run the joins between sheets along a joint between slabs; the transition is least noticeable there.
• Fix the edges down with double-sided tape; loosely laid paper curls.
• Cover the transition between the surface and its surroundings with snow or terrain; otherwise the edge of the sheet shows.
• Do not fix the model to the surface permanently, so that it can be taken off at any time.

Who it is for

The base suits modelers of Soviet and Eastern machines who want to photograph or display a finished model in a setting. The winter form suits aircraft in a winter finish and scenes from the Eastern Front particularly well.

It is not a model. The aircraft, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
