Solid square-section profiles of ABS plastic with a 4 mm side and a length of 250 mm. A solid bar differs from a hollow tube in that it cannot be crushed and that it takes turning, drilling and filing to shape without your breaking through into a bore. It therefore suits every job where the profile is not an imitation of a tube but a real piece of material out of which something is made.
ABS cuts and sands well, and on a solid profile scoring and snapping works too, provided the cut is deep enough. A square cut is still best made with a fine-toothed saw and trued up with a file afterwards. It is bonded with super glue or with an adhesive intended for ABS; ordinary polystyrene cement works by dissolving styrene, so do not count on its effect with this material. Degrease the surface and apply primer before painting, otherwise the paint will rub off the smooth plastic.

The knife can slip while cutting, so work on a cutting mat and draw the blade away from your body. Keep offcuts and dust out of the reach of children and ventilate the room when sanding.
