DSPIAE AT-CR is a stepped forming mandrel with twelve diameters. It serves for bending wire and photo-etched parts into accurate arcs and rings.
Responsibility details are not available.
A metal mandrel stepped into twelve diameters, on which wire and photo-etched parts are bent into regular arcs, rings and spirals. The range runs from roughly one to twelve millimeters, so it covers everything from small eyes and loops up to larger hoops and frames. A bend over a mandrel is fundamentally different from a bend made with pliers: the radius is the same along the whole length and repeatable, whereas pliers leave a kink and jaw marks where they grip.
Typically for eyes and loops of wire, rigging rings, hoops, hose loops, curved photo-etched strips, rims and covers. It comes into play on ships, aircraft and vehicles and everywhere an arc is meant to be regular.
The mandrel will be appreciated by builders of ships and aircraft who work with wire and photo-etch and by everyone who makes details of their own. It is not a bender for sharp edges, which is what photo-etch benders with jaws are for, but a complement to them.
Before forming it is good to draw the arc you need on paper and compare the finished part with it. The eye judges a radius badly and on a model the inaccuracy only shows once the part is glued on. Protect your eyes when working with wire, as a released end springs back.
