A brush for fine detail in which the tip itself is treated as a replaceable part. An ordinary detail brush is thrown away as soon as the point splays; here the front section unscrews, the tip is replaced and the handle carries on in service. The bristle is synthetic and the handle is metal, which gives it balance and a steadier guidance of the hand than light plastic holders.
Take paint onto the point only, never as far as the ferrule; paint that runs inside stiffens the bristle at its root and the point splays. Clean the brush with the appropriate thinner after work, rinse it and reshape the point between your fingers. Dry it lying flat or bristles down, so that the remaining moisture does not run into the ferrule. The tips come separately in several sizes.
The replaceable tip is held by a spring in the front section; do not forget to put it back when changing the tip, otherwise the tip will not seat in the holder and will slide in as you draw. Paints and tips are not included in the package.
The metal handle has one more advantage over a plastic one: paint that gets onto it during work wipes off easily and no matte marks from the thinner are left behind. The brush therefore goes on looking decent even after a longer series of coats, which is not true of wooden handles.
