A table-top vise with a swiveling head for modeling work, from DSPIAE. It holds a part firmly, so both hands stay free.
Responsibility details are not available.
A small vise for work on the bench whose clamping head can be swiveled in whatever direction is needed. The point is simple: a part that holds itself frees both hands, and only then can you work accurately. When scribing, drilling or sanding with one hand there is no way to hold the tool and steady the model at the same time, and that is where most slipped lines and cracked parts come from.
Tighten the jaws only enough for the part to hold; under excessive pressure plastic is permanently dented or cracks. With thin-walled parts put a piece of soft plastic or cork between the jaw and the material. Set the vise so that your hand moves away from your body as you draw the tool, rather than across the edge of the bench.
The vise itself does not replace clamping it to the bench. Under greater force it slides across a smooth top, so put a non-slip mat under it or find a spot by the edge where it can rest against something.
The model and tools are not included in the package.
A small vise does not replace a workshop one and is not built to. Its strength is that it stands right at your hand on the working top and will take a part the size of a fingernail; rougher work calling for real force belongs elsewhere.
