A monograph on the British twin-engine Beaufighter, volume number 1 of the British Warpaint series, by Alan W. Hall. It is a printed publication about the aircraft, not a kit nor an accessory for a build. The series is built so that one volume covers one type from the prototype to the last version, with archive photographs, color profiles and modeling drawings.
The Beaufighter came about as a heavy twin-engine fighter that Bristol built on the structure of the Beaufort torpedo bomber. It was powered by Bristol Hercules radial engines and carried four 20 mm cannons in the nose: at the start of the war that was one of the heaviest gun armaments a British aircraft had at the time. Fitted with radar it became one of the first truly effective RAF night fighters, and in the torpedo version it then served RAF Coastal Command as a strike aircraft against shipping. It proved itself in Burma and over the Mediterranean as well, so a model of it can be built in almost any finish, from a night scheme to desert camouflage.
Above all for modelers who are building a model of this type and are looking for a source for the finish, the markings and the details of a particular machine. Then for aviation historians and collectors of monographs, for whom the series serves as a quick and clear reference handbook to one type. The text is in English, so a basic knowledge of the language is assumed.
