About product

Carbon fiber sanding sticks 1 mm (Fine Art)

Sanding sticks with a carbon fiber core one millimeter thick from the brand Fine Art. The thin rigid profile reaches where an ordinary sanding sponge will not fit: between wheels and fenders, into the corners of an interior, between exhausts or at a wing root. Because the carbon fiber core does not flex, the stick sands flat even in a tight spot. These are not modeling parts or a kit but a tool for preparing a surface.

Use

  • sanding seams in tight and deeply recessed spots
  • leveling puttied seams where a wider tool will not fit
  • cleaning up small parts and their mating faces
  • removing the remains of casting blocks on small parts
  • working wet, when the abrasive clogs less

How to work with the tool

In tight spots work in short strokes and hold the stick as close to the abrasive part as possible, so that it does not bend. Work from a coarser abrasive to a finer one and rinse the surface between steps. Around small raised details such as rivets or handles, sand away from the detail rather than across it, or you will wipe it out. Judge the result against the light at a shallow angle; in the reflection the scratches will show sooner than under the primer, when it is already too late.

Who the tool is for

The tool suits modelers who build intricate models and need to reach places where a wider pad or fingers fail. A thickness of one millimeter is meant for tight seams; for larger flat surfaces a wider pad is better.

Do not inhale the sanding dust: work with extraction, with a respirator, or sand wet. The thin profile can break under excessive pressure, so sand lightly and in a stroke rather than in jabs.
