A crackling water-based paint in a package with a volume of 60 milliliters. It is applied straight from the bottle and as it dries it tears itself into a network of cracks that recall a dried-out bed or cracked clay. The effect comes about in one step, and no second component and no activator are needed.
The result cannot be predicted exactly, because the cracks form by themselves according to the thickness of the layer, the shape of the surface and the temperature in the room. On small and busy areas the cracks tend to differ from those on a flat board, so try the effect out on an offcut first. Accelerated drying is the most common cause of a poor result: the layer dries from the top before it has a chance to crack.
Once dry, the cracked surface can be tinted further: pigments and a wash sink into the cracks and bring out their depth.
