DSPIAE CT-40, spherical bit 4.0 mm

This is a bit on its own, not a tool: a spherical head of 4.0 mm diameter for the DSPIAE hand tool for chamfering and smoothing edges. The spherical shape smooths an edge into a curve and makes it possible to cut a spherical countersink. The 4.0 mm diameter is one of the larger ones, so it suits larger holes and more pronounced countersinks, where a smaller head would have to work in two passes and the edge would not come out cleanly.

Who it is for

For those who already have the chamfering tool from this maker. On its own the bit has no use; it needs a holder with the matching chuck. Choose the diameter according to the hole you are working on: a head larger than you need will take too much off the edge and the hole will be enlarged beyond its original size, which cannot be undone.

The bit is sharp; keep it out of the reach of children. Work with light pressure and a small number of turns by hand, as very little is needed on plastic; heavy pressure will not smooth the edge but break it away. It also pays to try the cut first on an offcut of the same plastic and to note how many turns give the depth you want, because with larger diameters material comes off quickly and cannot be put back.
