A flat brush with synthetic fibers from the Green Series range, in size 3. The flat shape holds the paint in an even band and makes it possible to lay down a continuous coat without visible strokes. Synthetic fibers are springier and more durable than natural ones and stand up better to contact with thicker paints and with abrasive pigments.
It suits base coats on smaller areas, glazes, applying washes over a larger area and above all the dry brush technique, in which the edges and raised places are picked out with an almost dry brush. For dry brushing the flat shape is better than a round one, because it spreads the mark evenly and does not create blotches.
Pick up paint on only part of the length of the hair, never right up to the metal ferrule; paint dried at the ferrule will ruin a brush beyond repair. For dry brushing, wipe the surplus off on a paper towel until the mark is barely visible and only then work on the model. After work, wash the brush out with water or a suitable cleaner, shape the hair back to its original form and let it dry lying flat, never bristles up in a jar.
