LP-11 Silver is a silver shade from the Tamiya LP range. These are lacquer-based paints which dry quickly, form a thin and smooth film and stand up to later sanding and polishing. The silver suits exhausts, rims, landing gear parts, bare metal surfaces and the small details of an interior where the surface is meant to resemble polished metal.
The paints of the LP range are thinned with lacquer thinner, not with water and not with thinner for acrylic paints. Apply them in several thin coats with a short pause between them, because one heavy coat easily pools and pulls back at the edges. The metallic pigment settles at the bottom, so shake the bottle thoroughly before and during work. Spraying is more natural for this range than a brush, because the quick drying leaves noticeable brush marks. Work in a well ventilated space.
Metallic shades forgive nothing in the base: every scratch, fingerprint and trace of grease is emphasized under them, so smooth and degrease the surface first. It covers well even in a thin coat, so it pays to use less rather than more. Peel masking tape off carefully and preferably only after longer drying, because a fresh film is easily damaged. Bear in mind too that a flat varnish applied at the end will suppress the metallic shine.
For modelers who spray and want a quick drying paint with a smooth and durable surface. Thinner, a brush and spraying equipment are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
