Replacement nibs for the line-running holder, three pieces

This is not a scribing or a cutting tool. The nib is dipped into a fluid for accentuating panel lines, set against the engraving, and the paint runs into it on its own by capillary action, much as in a fountain pen. The advantage over a brush is that the fluid goes exactly where it belongs and is not left smeared across the surrounding surface. The package holds three replacement nibs and is intended for owners of the matching holder from the same brand.

How they are used

• Fit the nib into the holder and tighten it so that it does not move as you draw
• Dip only the very tip, not the whole nib
• Guide it along the line without pressure, the fluid will find its own way
• Wipe the excess off only once it is dry, not while it is wet

What to watch out for

Flush the nib with the appropriate thinner after every session. Dried fluid inside the channel stops the capillary action and the nib then only spreads paint over the surface; that is precisely why the nibs count as a consumable. Do not try to clear a dried nib with a piece of wire, as that widens the channel and the line comes out irregular. Even mild levering to the side will bend a fine nib.

Who the box is for

For modelers who already have the matching holder and need to top up their consumables. The holder and the fluid for accentuating lines are not included in the package.

It makes sense to keep nibs in reserve. Once one clogs in the middle of a session, replacing it takes a few seconds, whereas waiting for a new delivery ends the evening. The empty package serves as a box for used nibs, so that they do not get scattered loose across the bench.
