F-4B Phantom II decals, US Marine Corps, in 1:144 scale (Kits-World)

A decal sheet for models of the two-seat McDonnell F-4B Phantom II fighter in the markings of the United States Marine Corps, in 1:144 scale. It is not a kit but a printed sheet that gives a finished model its markings. The manufacturer does not state the target kit.

The real subject

The Marine Corps received Phantoms in the same version as the Navy, but used them differently. Its squadrons mostly took off from land bases, and the main task was support of their own units on the ground, that is attacks on ground targets and escort. The machines therefore carried heavy external stores and, in the years of the war in Vietnam, a worn finish as well. Marine Corps squadrons marked their aircraft differently from the naval ones, so the two model versions are easy to tell apart.

Use

• apply the decals over a gloss base, on a matte surface a silvery haze will form
• cut the markings out with a sharp blade close to the edge of the print
• in 1:144 scale work with tweezers and a damp brush
• a decal softener helps settle a marking into panel lines and onto curved surfaces
• once dry, overcoat them and only then apply matte varnish and weathering

Who the sheet is for

For modelers who build Phantoms in the smallest scales and want a Marine Corps machine in the display case alongside a naval one. It also suits a replacement for decals that have yellowed in an older kit.

This is a stand-alone decal sheet. The kit, paints, varnish and decal softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
