1:48 P-51D Mustang "Modern Day Mustangs" 2

P-51D Mustang decals, Modern Day Mustangs 2, in 1:48 scale (Kits-World)

A decal sheet for models of the North American P-51D Mustang fighter in 1:48 scale. As stated on the box, this is the second sheet of the Modern Day Mustangs series, that is markings of Mustangs in their present-day form rather than wartime schemes from 1944 and 1945. It is not a kit but a printed sheet with markings.

The real subject

The P-51D was an American fighter with a liquid-cooled engine and a long range, thanks to which it could escort bombers across the whole of Europe. After the war it became one of the most widespread airworthy veterans: dozens of machines still fly today at air shows and in private hands. Their owners often do not leave them in a wartime finish, so present-day Mustangs wear polished metal, bold colors, civil registrations and names that have nothing to do with 1944. That is exactly what sets this series apart from the usual sheets with wartime squadrons.

Use

• apply the decals over a gloss base, on a matte surface a silvery haze will form
• seal polished metal with varnish before the decal, otherwise the paint rubs off
• settle large area markings with a softener and push the air out from the center
• overcoat them once dry so that the edge of the carrier film disappears
• do not overdo matte weathering on present-day machines, veterans are kept clean

Who the sheet is for

For modelers who build a Mustang in the form in which it can be seen at an air show, and for collectors of airworthy veterans. It also suits a build whose main effect is to be metal and shine rather than wartime weathering.

This is a stand-alone decal sheet. The kit, paints, varnish and decal softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
