An injection-molded plastic kit of the most widespread version of the German Panzer IV medium tank, and that in the early production form. The military designation Sd.Kfz. 161/2, which the packaging states, does belong to the Ausf. H version. The kit is from the Blitz line: the manufacturer conceived it as a faster build with a lower parts count, but with the shape and the main details kept. It is a model for a builder who has already worked with a plastic kit, not a toy.
The Ausf. H was the most numerous version of the Panzer IV; production got under way in 1943 and the vehicle carried the designation Sd.Kfz. 161/2. The main armament is the long 7.5 cm KwK 40 L/48, the frontal hull armor was thickened compared with the older versions, and the Schürzen armor skirts were added to the sides. Early vehicles still carried a number of features of the late Ausf. G version, among them the same running gear and wheels; that is exactly what sets the early production apart from the later Ausf. H vehicles. The Panzer IV remained the backbone of the German armored units until the end of the war and fought on every front.
Finish and paint the running gear and the inside of the hull before you close the hull. Build the Schürzen skirts only after the sides have been painted, and count on the fact that in period photographs they are often bent or missing in part. The base is dark yellow, with stripes or clouds of green and brown over it; apply dust and mud on the running gear with pigments and a wash only over the matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
