A replacement scribing pin for the parallel scribing tool, from DSPIAE. The consumable part that draws the line itself.
Responsibility details are not available.
The parallel scribing tool holds the pin at an adjustable distance from a guide edge, so a line can be scribed exactly parallel to the edge of a part or to a joint that is already there. The pin is the only part of that assembly that wears, which is why it is sold separately. Without a sharp pin the tool starts pushing the plastic rather than cutting it, and the line widens.
Slide the pin into its seat and tighten it according to the instructions for the tool; how far it projects decides how deep the line is scribed. Scribe by pulling toward you, in repeated light strokes rather than one heavy one. Keep the tool pressed firmly against the guide edge while doing so, otherwise the line veers off at the end of the stroke.
The point is of a hard and therefore brittle material. Sideways levering will break it, and a broken stub is hard to pull out of its seat. The package holds the pin only; the parallel scribing tool itself is not part of it and has to be obtained separately.
It makes sense to keep a pin in reserve. It usually breaks in the middle of a run of paneling, and without a spare the work has to be put off, while picking up exactly where a half-scribed line left off is noticeably harder after a break than finishing it in one go.
