DSPIAE SP-ES10 abrasive papers for flat heads, 1000 grit

Five self-adhesive abrasive papers cut for the flat sanding heads of the electric reciprocating sander. A flat head keeps a panel true and will not round an edge off, which matters precisely at the fine finishing steps, because a rounded edge is spotted on a finished model straight away. The 1000 grit removes the marks left by the 800 grit and prepares the surface for the last grade.

When to reach for them

After the 800 grit. On a model with a matte finish the 1000 grit may be the last grade used as well, because matte paint hides the remaining texture. With gloss coats and metallic paints it is only an intermediate step.

How to work with them

• Clean the head before sticking the paper on; it will not hold on dust.
• Work without pressure and always with the whole face of the head, otherwise the edge will cut a scratch.
• Clean the part between grits, as a grain from the coarser step will make a scratch.
• Replace a clogged paper; a blocked abrasive burnishes the surface instead of cutting it.
• Check the result under a raking side light.

Who they are for

The refill is for owners of the electric reciprocating sander with flat heads who are finishing flat panels, sides and covers. The sander and the sanding heads are not included in the package, nor are the papers for round heads, which have a shape of their own.

Flat and round heads get alternated during a build, so it pays to have both shapes of paper to hand. Do not breathe in the sanding dust from plastic and resin; work with extraction or at least with a respirator.
