DSPIAE SS-C02 sanding discs, 800 grit, 10 mm in diameter

Twenty-four foam discs with a self-adhesive back, ten millimeters in diameter. The 800 grit is a fine grade that no longer removes shape but prepares the surface: it wipes out the scratches left by the 600 grit and leaves a smooth face on which you can properly judge whether a joint really is level.

When to reach for it

After the 600 grit and before the finest step. If you are building a model with a matte finish, the 800 grit tends to be the last grade used as well, because matte paint reliably hides the remaining texture. On gloss surfaces, by contrast, it is only an intermediate step.

How to work with them

• Stick the disc onto the mandrel exactly in the center, otherwise it will run out of true.
• Keep the speed low and use no pressure; overheated plastic smears instead of being removed.
• Clean the part between grits, as a grain from the coarser step will make a scratch.
• Rinse a clogged disc with clean water and let it dry.
• Keep checking your work under a raking side light; on a smooth face a flaw looks different than it does from above.

Who they are for

The refill is for users of the discs in this range who have used up the finer grits. It comes into play on builds with a lot of sanding of joints and filler, that is typically on conversions, resin parts and older molds with pronounced seams.

Do not breathe in the sanding dust from plastic and resin; work with extraction or at least with a respirator.
