DSPIAE SS-C02R mandrels for 10 mm discs

Six mandrels onto which self-adhesive foam sanding discs ten millimeters in diameter are stuck. The mandrel is a consumable just as the disc is: repeated sticking and peeling clogs its face with adhesive residue and it stops holding, so in time it gets replaced.

The workmanship

The shank is three millimeters in diameter, which is the size common on modeling drills and in the chucks of electric grinding pens. Six pieces to a package make it possible to have several mandrels fitted with different grits at once and simply swap them in the tool, instead of resticking the discs.

How to work with them

• Stick the disc exactly in the center of the face, otherwise the assembly will run out of true as it turns.
• Clamp the mandrel as short as possible; a long projecting mandrel starts to vibrate.
• Wipe the adhesive residue off the face with an alcohol-based cleaner, not with an aggressive thinner.
• Store the mandrels dry; moisture does the adhesive layer of the discs no good.

Who they are for

The package is for those who already use the discs in this range and want to prepare several grits in advance, and as a replacement once the original mandrels stop holding. A mandrel does not sand on its own; the sanding discs are sold separately.

It also helps to have the mandrels labeled or distinguished by color so that the grits do not get mixed up. A single grain carried over from a coarse disc to the fine step will make a scratch that then has to be sanded out from the beginning again. When working with a rotary tool, tie long hair back and do not wear loose sleeves.
