A plastic stand on which a finished model is set in a display case or on a shelf. The point is twofold. It lifts the model above the surface, so dust does not settle under it and the underside can be wiped at any time, and at the same time it gives the assembly a firm base; on an aircraft on its landing gear or a vehicle with thin wheels that means the model will not topple over every time it is knocked.
This is the clear version. The color of the stand affects how the model looks in a display case: a dark base lifts the model optically and brings out its outlines, a light one looks lighter and goes better with models in bright colors, and a clear one lets the background come through so that the stand itself disappears. The same brand makes all three, so a collection can be brought into line.
The stand does not fix the model down. If it is to stand in a display case that gets knocked, it is advisable to add a fixing of your own to the model. Wipe the plastic with a dry cloth; solvents leave matte marks on it.
The model is not included in the package; the stand is supplied on its own.
It pays to get the stand at the same time as the model rather than later. A collection already set up directly on the glass of a display case is hard to rearrange once stands start being slipped in one by one, and the undersides of models that have stood on the glass are usually dusty and scratched by then.
