DSPIAE XSP-600 Adhesive Sandpaper, 600 grit (30 pieces)

The pack contains thirty self-adhesive abrasive sheets measuring 75 x 25 mm. The backing is latex paper and the abrasive is corundum (aluminum oxide). The manufacturer intends them to be stuck onto the sanding plates and flat backings of its own range; the adhesive layer holds lightly and can be peeled off without any glue residue.

What 600 grit is for

The 600 grit is an intermediate stage. It removes the scratches left by coarser paper around 280 to 400 grit, but it still takes off enough material to level a small irregularity in putty. The surface after it is not smooth enough for paint, so 800 and up should follow. Skipping the intermediate stage is exactly why regular scratches appear under a gloss varnish: the varnish will not cover them, it will emphasize them.

Use

• Stick the sheet onto a sanding plate or a flat backing.
• Sand in one direction, wipe the surface as you go and check it against the light.
• On plastic you can work wet, which reduces dust.
• Wipe the surface between abrasive grades so that the coarser grain does not carry scratches further.
• A sheet can be cut down to a smaller format for sanding in tight places.

Who it is for

For modelers who refine sanded seams and filled areas and want a replaceable sheet on a plate instead of a whole sanding file. It suits plastic as well as resin, although with printed parts it is better to sand wet, because dry resin dust is unpleasant.

Do not breathe the sanding dust and ventilate the workspace. Sanding plates, putty and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
