A decal sheet in 1:72 scale devoted to the RAF night fighter Beaufighters. The first part of a two-part release, with a thin carrier film and accurate color registration.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bristol Beaufighter grew out of the torpedo-carrying Beaufort, but it was precisely the big twin-engine airframe with its roomy fuselage that made it the ideal carrier of the first airborne radars. From the winter of 1940 it patrolled over a blacked-out England with AI equipment and with four 20 mm cannon in the nose of the fuselage. The crew was made up of a pilot and, behind him in a separate station, an operator watching the screen. Single-engine fighters of the day had no such firepower, and for a bomber that was found it usually meant a single pass.
The artwork covers the machines of the night squadrons in the form they had in the period of the dark night finish and of the later gray-green scheme. The printing has a thin film, saturated color and accurate registration, so that once dry and varnished over it leaves no noticeable step on the surface. The envelope also includes a guide to the placement of the individual markings.
The surface under the decal should be glossy, clean and fully cured. The artwork is cut out as closely as possible, dipped in lukewarm water for a few seconds and set on a paper towel until the film can be moved slightly. It is positioned with a brush, the surplus water is drawn off and a drop of decal softener pulls the film into the rivets and panel lines. Finally everything is sealed with a matte or semi-gloss varnish.
The plastic parts and the paints are sold separately.
