A decal sheet in 1:48 scale with nine aircraft of British fighter aces, from the summer of 1940 to the Pacific theater of 1945.

The spread of dates among the subjects here is unusually wide. The line-up opens with the aircraft of John Ellis from the autumn of 1940, when the further course of the war was being decided over southern England, and closes with the aircraft of Clive Caldwell over the island of Morotai in the last year of the fighting. In between stand Brian Lane, Brendan Finucane with his Irish nickname, the Malta legend Jack Yarra, the Canadian Don Morrison, the New Zealanders Evan Mackie and Colin Gray over Sicily, and finally James Johnson with a wing of his own.
The sheet offers nine options and holds together on one sheet the early Mk.I and Mk.II forms, the well-known Mk.V in three variants, the slim Mk.VIII in a Pacific finish and the Mk.IX from the Mediterranean and from the home squadrons. The builder therefore has material for several very different aircraft without having to buy several sheets.
In a larger scale the quality of the printing stands out, but so does every mistake in settling a decal. It pays to apply a gloss clear coat first, then to transfer the decal onto a wet surface and straighten it with a soft brush rather than a cloth. On aircraft with a band around the fuselage, plan in advance where the join of the carrier film will fall, so that it does not land in the middle of the band. At the end, unify the whole surface with a matte clear coat and only then put the shadows into the engraved lines. Anyone aiming at an aircraft from the last months of the war will reach for the Pacific subject: its finish takes markedly heavier wear than the aircraft of the home squadrons.
