About product

The Murata Type 13 and 18 in 1:12 (Tori Factory)

This resin set reproduces two historical Japanese Murata rifles, the Type 13 and the Type 18, in 1:12 scale. This is not a standalone model but a period accessory for figures in the same scale. The package usually holds both weapons and a special sling.

The real subject

The Murata rifle was the first Japanese bolt-action rifle for a metallic cartridge, developed by Tsuneyoshi Murata with inspiration from French and other European designs. The Type 13 was adopted by the Japanese army in 1880 and became the first home-grown military rifle system; the Type 18 was its improved version. The weapons were a significant step in the modernization of Japanese infantry armament at the end of the 19th century.

Building and painting tips

Wash the mold release agent off the parts, cut off the casting blocks and bond them with super glue. Paint the wooden stocks in warm brown tones with glazing and the metal parts in a dark steel color; a fine wash will pick out the texture.

Who it is for

  • Collectors of 1:12 figures interested in historical Japanese armament.
  • Modelers building historical figure scenes.
  • More experienced modelers working with resin.

It is supplied as an unpainted resin set. Paints, glue and the figure are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
