The scale of this set is 1:32. It is not an airplane kit but a 3D-printed detail accessory from the 3DF brand for the cockpit of a model. The package contains two sets of pedals, so it is enough for two models, or you keep a spare in case a part breaks while you are cutting it off.

What rudder pedals are and why people buy them

The pedals sit on the cockpit floor, and on a model with an open canopy they are clearly visible, because the viewer's eye goes into the cockpit first. In an injected kit the pedals tend to be merely suggested as coarse blocks, or they are missing altogether. 3D printing can manage an open, thin and sharp shape with modeled footplates and straps over the instep, which is exactly the kind of geometry that injected plastic cannot do, because the part could not be taken out of the mold.

Why Luftwaffe specifically

The designation Luftwaffe means German aircraft. The shape of the pedals differs between air forces, because British, American and German pedals look different, which is why aftermarket sets are always tied to a particular side of the conflict. In the name the maker states neither a specific aircraft type nor a target kit. So before you buy, compare the shape of the pedals with a photograph of the cockpit of the aircraft you are building and with the parts in your kit; compatibility that the maker does not declare should not be assumed.

Do not get the scale wrong

The same pedals exist in two scales, 1:32 and 1:35. They are two different products and are not interchangeable, because the part in 1:35 is noticeably small in a 1:32 model and it will show in the cockpit. This variant is 1:32, that is the classic large aircraft scale. Check the scale of your kit before you order.

Working with 3D prints

• The pedals are tiny and thin, so cut them off the supports with a sharp knife a little at a time and do not snap them.
• Bond with super glue or epoxy; cement for polystyrene does not dissolve this material and so will not join it.
• Before painting, wash the print resin residue off the parts, otherwise the paint will not hold.
• Sand only wet, because dust from these parts is harmful to health and must not be inhaled.
