A resin detail accessory, not an airplane model. The set contains an accurately cast electronic (avionics) bay for the A-10C Thunderbolt II attack aircraft — a compartment with avionics units that can be exposed on the model to show the internal equipment. It replaces the corresponding plastic part and is designed for the A-10 kit in 1:48 scale. Aires is among the leaders in resin detail sets with very fine casting.

Use and fitting

• A detail set for the A-10 kit in 1:48 scale; expect to modify (cut out) the plastic at the location of the bay.
• Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water so no mold release residue remains on the surface.
• Cut off the casting blocks with a sharp hobby knife or a fine saw, without breaking the bay's thin walls.
• Sand the cut surfaces flat, always with airway protection.
• Glue with cyanoacrylate (super glue); cement for plastic does not hold on resin.
• Dry-fit the bay and adjust it before closing up the fuselage.

Painting tips

Apply a primer to the resin before painting. Shade the inside of the bay and the avionics units to bring out the detail — a base color, a wash in the recesses and dry brushing on the edges. Pick out wiring and connectors with small color accents; a bit of dust and wear will add to the in-service look.

For modelers building the A-10 in 1:48 scale who want to bring the model to life with an exposed avionics bay and take the detail beyond plain plastic. Working with resin and modifying the fuselage calls for a more experienced hand.

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package. Wear a respirator and ventilate the area when sanding resin.
