Tableware in one seventy-second for the smallest dioramas — pitchers, glasses, tankards and trays, twenty-one objects in all.
Responsibility details are not available.
Reducing to one seventy-second pushes a prop down to the size of a poppy seed. A glass measures roughly two millimeters, a tankard a little more. You might think there is no point in making such an object, but the opposite is true: it is precisely in small scales that the impression is decided by a quantity of small things the eye cannot name yet reliably registers.
It finds a use everywhere human activity is supposed to show — a table in front of a roadside tavern, a crate in the corner of a hangar, dishes left by a field kitchen. According to the manufacturer the package holds three pitchers, six glasses, two sets of three tankards and six trays, so it is enough for several separate corners.
Never glue dry. Prepare the place first: a drop of glue on a tile, a moistened toothpick tip and good light. A part that falls on the carpet is lost.
Color instead of detail. Fine drawing does not work here. Reach for a saturated base, a dark line in the joints and a single point of gloss on top — that is the whole recipe.
The ratio to a human figure. In one seventy-second a standing figure is about twenty-four millimeters, so a hand is barely discernible. Better to set the object on a table next to the figure than into its palm. A group of three people around a small table with dishes tells a story more reliably than a single figure with a tankard that nobody will make out anyway.
