Seven replacement wheels for the Soviet six-wheeled truck from the Gorky plant in 1:35 scale, with a flattened tire contact patch.
Responsibility details are not available.
The GAZ-AAA was a six-wheeled truck from the Gorky car plant, derived from an American design built under license, which served the Red Army as an all-purpose workhorse from the mid-1930s. Armored cars and early rocket launchers were built on its chassis, so it turns up in scenes from the fighting of 1941 right through to the end of the war.
Production kits tend to have perfectly round tires, yet a loaded truck standing on soft ground visibly settles on its rubber. Replacement parts with a suggested flat bring that difference back and the model suddenly looks as though it really weighs something. It shows most on the rear dual wheels, where the tires lean against one another.
Before fitting, check the diameter of the stub on the axle and widen it carefully with a drill if needed. Fit the wheels only after painting the underside of the truck; a brush then reaches the springs and the frame far more easily. Make sure the flattened patch points downward and the truck stands level.
The truck itself is a rewarding subject partly because it can be worked into so many forms. Under a tarpaulin it carried infantry, with a flatbed it carried supplies, with a tank it carried fuel, and in conversions it carried heavier equipment. Each time it stood on the same tires, so the replacement wheels are useful across a whole collection in the making, not just on a single model.
