Paint masks for the Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. B: numbers and national insignia

A set of self-adhesive masks for 1:35 scale with which the tactical numbers and national insignia on a model are not applied through a decal but straight in paint. The markings then blend with the surface, have no glossy carrier film around their perimeter and there is no risk of their wrinkling on an edge or on a rivet. It is not a kit and not a decal, but an aid to painting.

The real subject

The Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. B belongs to the early versions of the German medium tank. It differed from the later production vehicles mainly in its running gear: instead of six larger wheels on torsion bars it had eight small road wheels on leaf springs. Only a small number of vehicles were built, so it is a marginal version, but a rewarding one among modelers.

How to use the masks

• The mask is applied to a base shade that has already been sprayed and dried, that is before spraying the color of the markings.
• The base must be smooth, clean and degreased, otherwise paint will creep under the edge.
• Spray in several thin coats, perpendicular to the mask; a heavy wet coat will creep.
• With numerals that have an inner eye, that is zero, six, eight and nine, fit the inner part of the mask as well.
• Remove the mask as soon as the paint has dried and pull it back at a sharp angle.

Who the set is for

For modelers with an airbrush who are bothered by the gloss and thickness of a decal, and for those who finish a model with a heavily worn surface. Sprayed markings can be worked over with a sanding sponge and with pigments without any worry.
