About product

Me-262 A SPACE Set, 1:72 (Eduard, for Arma Hobby kits)

SPACE is a detail set, not a model of an aircraft. It combines two elements: 3D decals for the instrument panel and the cockpit panels and pre-painted steel photo-etch, above all the seat belts. The set is prepared directly for the Me-262 A kits from Arma Hobby in 1:72 scale.

How the SPACE range differs from classic photo-etch: the 3D decals have real thickness and relief, as the instruments, dials and switches stand out above the surface and the colors and clear coat are already printed on. They are lifted with tweezers off moistened backing paper, so the bending and gluing of tiny etched parts falls away. The steel belts are springier than brass ones, they hold the shape of a natural sag better and they are pre-painted as well. The result is a cockpit that looks rich even in a small scale, without demanding work with tweezers.

The real subject

The Messerschmitt Me 262 was the world's first jet fighter to see combat. It was powered by a pair of Junkers Jumo 004 turbojets slung under the wing, it entered the fighting at the end of the Second World War and its speed put it well above the Allied piston fighters. The versions of the A series included pure fighter as well as fighter-bomber forms. The cockpit was reasonably clear for its time, but with the canopy open the instrument panel is clearly visible on a model, and that is exactly where a detail set pays off most.

How to use the set

The 3D decals are not immersed in water: moisten only the backing paper under the part with a sponge, lift the part off with tweezers and seat it in a drop of white PVA glue, as the manufacturer does not recommend super glue on them. The base should be smooth and ideally in a dark, matte shade, so the original relief is usually sanded off the plastic instrument panel. The decals have relief, so handle them carefully and do not press on them. A decal softener such as Micro Sol does not belong here, as it attacks the print. The steel photo-etch is glued with super glue (cyanoacrylate); bend the belts slightly before fitting so that they drape naturally over the edges of the seat. It is best to finish the whole cockpit before the fuselage is glued together.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the Arma Hobby Me-262 in 1:72 who want a detailed cockpit
  • Modelers who do not want to work with tiny unpainted photo-etch
  • Those who build with the canopy open
  • Collectors for whom a faithful interior is an essential part of a model

The set contains details only and it is not a kit of an aircraft. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

A set of details combining 3D decals for the instrument panel and the cockpit panels with pre-painted steel photo-etch, typically the seat belts. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory for a base kit.

For the Me-262 A kits from Arma Hobby in 1:72 scale.

No. The colors and the clear coat are printed directly on the decal, and the part is only lifted with tweezers off moistened backing paper and fixed with PVA glue. A dark matte base is recommended so that they stand out.

Photo-etch is flat and has to be painted and bent. The 3D decals have real thickness and relief detail and are simply lifted with tweezers off moistened paper, which is considerably faster and easier.
