The Flyhawk photo-etched set of rain-proof covers in 1:700 scale adds faithfully covered instruments and weapons to the deck of a warship.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a ship kit but a photo-etched detail accessory. The set holds brass photo-etched parts representing the protective covers and rain covers with which the gun barrels, the anti-aircraft weapons, the searchlights and the instruments on warships were covered. These covers give the deck of a model in 1:700 scale a realistic, lived-in look, and they can be used universally on a range of ship types.
The crews of warships routinely covered sensitive weapons and instruments with canvas covers that protected them from rain, salt and the weather. On the real ships it was an ever-present feature that adds fidelity to a model, yet it is usually missing from plastic kits.
Separate the small parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and shape them gently where needed. Glue them with cyanoacrylate glue straight onto the weapons or instruments concerned. Once glued, degrease them, go over them with primer and paint them in the shade of canvas, usually light gray or beige, with the folds brought out lightly.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue, paints and other parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
