A soft Madworks sanding sponge in 1200 grit for finishing a surface. It is used at the end of sanding, before primer is sprayed, and between coats of lacquer.
Responsibility details are not available.
A flexible sanding sponge from the soft sponge range of the Taiwanese brand Madworks. The 1200 grit no longer belongs to the removal of material but to finishing a surface: it wipes out fine scratches from coarser sanding, dulls a surface for better adhesion of a spray coat and levels small irregularities in dried paint. The soft carrier foam follows the shape of the part, so no flat facets are sanded into a domed surface. The sponge can be cut into smaller pieces and so reach into grooves and between details.
For modelers who care about the smoothness of a lacquered surface, that is above all for cars, motorcycles and glossy canopies. Before the 1200 grit the surface has to be leveled with coarser steps; for removing material this coarseness is slow. Still finer steps in the same range are intended for pre-polishing, that is for preparing a surface for polishing compound. On matte models of military equipment the 1200 grit is needlessly fine.
Do not inhale sanding dust from plastic and resin, wipe the surface as you go and ventilate during longer work; with resin a mask is always in order. Do not leave the sponge in solvent or in glue.
