The chisel from the Mr.Pro 0-Series Premium Chisel range is intended for engraving grooves and panel lines on plastic models. The edge is very narrow, in tenths of a millimeter, so the trace stays fine and does not look oversized in scale. You will use it where sanding has made the original lines disappear, where a shallow pressing needs deepening or where the division of covers is to be suggested. There is one piece in the package.
The tool does not cut forwards like a knife; it takes material away as you draw it toward you. Guide it along a ruler or tape stuck onto the part and do not rely on a steady hand. Instead of one deep stroke, make several light ones in a row, and the groove will stay straight and not wander to one side. There is no point in pressing, as the sharpness of the edge does the work. Level the burrs raised by dry work with a sanding sponge or a polisher once you have finished, or they will show under the paint as a furry edge to the groove.
The edge is thin and very sensitive to lateral bending, so do not lever with it and do not scrape metal with it. Clear the plastic residue off it after work and store it so that nothing rests on the point. A sharp tool is also safer than a blunt one, because it needs no force, and force is the usual cause of slipping off the line.
For modelers who are taking up the restoration of paneling and fine surface work. Other tools and consumables are not included, unless stated otherwise.
