This is a sheet of water-slide decals, not a kit. There are no plastic parts, wheels or body in the package: what you get is the complete marking of one particular racing car, which is applied to an already built and painted model. You have to get the basic Porsche 911 GT3 RSR model (made by Fujimi) separately. That is exactly why such sheets exist: a kit in the box usually offers just one livery, at most two, yet the same car ran a whole series of races over a season and looked different in each of them, with different sponsors, a different race number, a different name on the door. A collector does not want just any RSR, he wants that car from that race. Studio27 is a Japanese brand that prides itself on the quality and the print registration of its sheets.
At the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2012, race number 77 belonged to the Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of the 997 generation of the Felbermayr-Proton team, which started in the top professional GT class (crew Marc Lieb, Richard Lietz and Wolf Henzler). This very number 77 is symbolic for Porsche fans: with the same number and the same three-man crew the team had won its GT class at Le Mans two years earlier. At that time the 911 RSR represented the peak of the Porsche customer racing program, with a naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine in the back, a minimum of electronics and enormous stamina.
The base must be glossy. A decal laid on matte clear coat starts to silver: air stays under the film and a silver rim appears around the artwork. It is the most common mistake and there is no other cure than coating over it. So spray gloss paint or a gloss clear coat and let it cure thoroughly.
The large side areas and the curved parts of the 911 call for decal softener: without it the film will not stretch over the edges and radii and will make folds. With sponsor markings covering whole panels it is practically mandatory equipment. Once it is completely dry comes clear coat, so that the edge of the decal cannot be felt, and after that polishing, which gives the model that wet shine of a car that has just come out of the pits.
The package contains decals only. The model, paints, clear coat, softener and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
