This is not a kit. It is a sheet of water-slide decals in 1:24 scale from the Japanese maker Studio27, prepared for the Porsche Cayman plastic kit from Fujimi. The model itself, the paints and the clear coats are not included in the package: you have to own the Cayman kit or get it separately. That is exactly why such sheets are bought: a box with a model offers one marking variant, at most two, yet the car raced in a whole range of color schemes. A collector who wants a particular car reaches for a separate sheet.
The blue, white and gold combination of the Rothmans brand is among the most famous racing color schemes of all. It was made famous by the works Porsches of the 1980s: Group C cars in these colors won Le Mans and the world championship, and the livery became a visual icon of motorsport that even someone outside the field recognizes. The Cayman in this scheme is a present-day tribute to the historic pattern, not a works racing special of the 1980s. An interesting contrast is offered by pairing it with the Porsche 962 C Rothmans sheet: there it is the original, here it is a quotation. Anyone fond of this livery usually wants both and builds the pair side by side.
Decals belong on gloss clear coat only. On a matte surface air is caught under the carrier film and the decal starts to silver, which is the most common mistake and spoils an otherwise good model. The hood, the fenders and the sides of the Cayman are curved, so decal softener pays off; with a livery covering the whole body like this it is not a luxury but a necessity, so that the film is drawn into the edges and recesses. Count on the fact as well that the sheet usually does not cover the whole body: the rest of the area is sprayed, so you need paint in the right shade, so that no visible transition appears at the boundaries of the decal. Once it is dry comes clear coat and gentle polishing: the decal disappears under the coat and the surface takes on a wet, factory look.
The package contains decals only. This is not a kit: the model of the car, paints, glue and clear coats are not part of the delivery.
