About product

Porsche 934 Vaillant Kremer, 1976, a Studio27 decal sheet, 1:24

A decal sheet in 1:24 scale from Studio27 with the legendary green and white Vaillant livery of the Kremer Racing team from the 1976 season. Do not let the name confuse you: this is a decal set, not a kit. No parts, no plastic, just the markings. The model you will apply them to, that is the Porsche 934 kit from Tamiya, has to be obtained separately, just like the paints.

Kremer, Vaillant and the point of decal sheets

The Porsche 934 was the version of the 911 Turbo adapted for Group 4: a turbocharged six-cylinder engine, enormous flared fenders, a front spoiler and a rear wing. Porsche built it as a customer car for sale to private stables, which is the whole reason why so many color versions of it exist and why decal sheets for the 934 are worth it: the box from Tamiya holds only a limited choice of schemes, while a sheet opens up the whole rest of the starting field for you.

Kremer Racing of the Kremer brothers from Cologne is right at the top of those teams. They were not satisfied with what Porsche sold them: they went on developing and improving the cars themselves, and in 1979 they won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with their own version of the Porsche 935 K3, which no private team had managed until then. The German heating company Vaillant was their long-time sponsor and gave them the unmistakable green and white combination; in 1976 it was above all Bob Wollek who raced the Kremer 934 in it in the German sports car championship.

Practical tips for the decals

The greatest pitfall of the build revolves around the green and white livery as well: the sheet does not cover the whole body. The basic colors have to be sprayed, the decals add the logos and the dividing lines, so get the matching shades to go with the sheet right away, otherwise the build will stall. Then there is the iron rule: decals are applied to GLOSS clear coat. On a matte base air is trapped under the film and the decal starts to silver along the edges. And one more necessity: with a 934 and such bulging fenders, decal softener is practically mandatory equipment, as without it the film wrinkles on the curve. Once it is dry comes clear coat over the decals and polishing: the markings disappear under the coat and the surface gains the depth a racing car needs.

Who the sheet is for

  • modelers with the Porsche 934 kit from Tamiya
  • supporters of Kremer Racing and of German racing Porsches of the 1970s
  • collectors of classic liveries, as the green and white Vaillant is one of the best known of all
  • more experienced builders who dare to take on a two-tone body with masking

Only decals are included in the package, not the kit, paints, clear coat, softener or glue. Other Porsche 934 liveries were made as well, so you can build the whole starting field.

FAQ

It is not. This is a decal sheet only. The Porsche 934 kit from Tamiya has to be obtained separately.

You have to spray. The green and white combination is applied with paint and masking, the decals add the logos, lettering and numbers.

A matte surface is microscopically broken up, air stays under the film of the decal and the edges take on a silver color. They are always applied over a gloss.

With the 934, practically yes. The car has very bulging flared fenders and without softener the decal puckers on the curve.
