Before you start: there is no plastic in the package. It is a sheet of water-transferred decals in 1:24 scale from Studio27 which supplies the complete markings of the Italian Fiesta of the BRC team from the Rally San Remo 2014. The carrier is the Ford Fiesta kit from Belkits, which you have to own, otherwise you have nothing to apply them to.
Rallying is not run in an arena with grandstands, but on closed public roads, from gravel through ice to perfect asphalt. The driver has a co-driver beside him who reads the course from the pace notes, so he enters an invisible corner on the basis of a sentence he has just heard. San Remo is from the family of the asphalt ones: a legendary Italian event whose stages wind through the mountain hairpins above the Ligurian coast, with hairpins, drops, changing grip and flawless precision instead of brute force. In 2014 the crew of Giandomenico Basso and Lorenzo Granai raced here with the Fiesta R5 of the BRC team and finished second.
The base decides: a decal is laid on gloss clear coat. On a matte one air is imprisoned under the film and the edges turn silver, and a repair tends to be painful. On the domed places, the fenders, the roof, the wing, bring in decal softener, which lets the film flow into the shape without folds. Next comes clear coat over the decals, which seals the markings and hides the edges. Only then does weathering come. An asphalt rally is dirty work too: rubber pick-up, dust from the verge, grease around the exhaust and stone chipping on the sills. It is not a polished salon car and it is not meant to be one.
The package contains decals only. The kit, paints, clear coats and weathering products are not included. Other sheets for the Ford Fiesta exist as well.
