A Studio27 decal sheet in 1:24 scale with the racing livery of the Group A Honda Civic in the colors of the Japanese oil company Idemitsu from the Japanese touring car race InterTEC 1989. Careful: this is NOT a kit. There are only decals, that is markings, in the package, no plastic parts, no body. To use them, you have to have a separately bought model of the car: the sheet is intended for the kit of the racing Group A Honda Civic (the EF3 generation) from Aoshima.

The real subject

InterTEC was a Group A touring car race held at the Japanese Fuji circuit; it was run toward the end of the season and it regularly attracted top drivers and teams from Europe and Australia as well, so it was one of the most watched Japanese touring races of its time. In this company the Honda Civic was a small, light front-wheel drive hatchback which could not win on power against bigger and considerably stronger rivals. It scored elsewhere: in agility, low weight, kindness to tires and reliability, the qualities that count in endurance touring races. Idemitsu is a Japanese oil company and one of the sponsors whose colors are firmly connected with the racing Civics of the period.

How to apply the decals

The key rule: decals are applied to gloss clear coat. On a matte surface air stays under the film and the decal silvers, as a grayish haze forms around the artwork. It is the single most common mistake when marking models. Stick to the order paint, gloss clear coat, decal, clear coat, polishing; the result is the wet look of racing paint. On curved areas, recesses and the edges of the fenders use decal softener, as without it the film will not settle and will make folds. The sheet carries the markings and the lettering, but the basic color of the body has to be sprayed separately, as the decals do not replace it.
