The Ford Escort Mk.I RS1600 is a small two-door car with rear-wheel drive which earned a reputation as an indestructible machine in the competitions of the 1970s. On a broken course its low weight and simple construction helped it, and that is exactly why you will meet it in countless color forms in competition fields. The RAC Rally was among the hardest events of the season, run on British forest roads, and the cars from it tend to be covered in a layer of mud.
Decals for one particular competition form of the car from the RAC Rally of 1974. The sheets are cut for Revell kits in 1:24 scale, so the size of the items matches the body of this model. Deal with the color of the body beforehand, therefore, as the decals only follow on from a finished spray job.
First spray the body and coat it to a gloss; on a matte base air is held under the decal and the edges then turn white. Cut the item out close to the artwork, soak it and let it rest until it starts to slide over the paper. Settle it together with the water underneath, line it up and draw the water off from the center outward. On recesses and edges use softener and let the item dry without touching it. Spray the model with a coat at the end, depending on how muddy you want the car to be.
For modelers who want to build a particular competition car, not a generic Escort. The kit, paints and clear coat are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
