About product

Porsche 962 C Jägermeister, Spa 1986, a 1:24 decal sheet (Studio27)

Here you are not buying a model, but a sheet of water-slide decals in 1:24 scale from Studio27 for the Porsche 962 C plastic kit from Hasegawa. This is not a kit: the model of the car, paints, glue and clear coats are not in the package and you have to have them. That is exactly why separate sheets are sold: a box with a kit offers one or two color schemes, yet the 962 C raced in dozens of sponsor coats. A collector who wants a particular car from a particular race buys decals to go with it.

The real subject

The Porsche 956 and 962 are the most successful endurance car of all time, with six Le Mans victories in a row between 1982 and 1987 and absolute dominance in Group C. Alongside the works cars strong private teams started as well, and one of them brought the second most famous German racing livery to the circuit: the deep orange Jägermeister. The company sponsored motorsport for whole decades and the orange Porsches and BMWs in its colors are unmistakable, a pure visual icon of motorsport. The car with race number 17 wrote itself into history in 1986 on top of that: it won the 1000 km of Spa-Francorchamps, with Thierry Boutsen and Frank Jelinski behind the wheel. Spa counts as the most beautiful circuit in the world and its Eau Rouge, a steep climb with a blind corner, is among the most feared places in motorsport.

How to apply the decals

Decals belong on gloss clear coat; on a matte surface air is held under the film and the decal silvers. With a full-body livery such as Jägermeister reach for decal softener, as without it the film will not reliably draw onto the curved sides and edges of the 962 C. The paint is key as well: the sheet will not cover the whole body, the rest is sprayed, so the orange under the decal has to match in shade, otherwise the transition will give away where the marking ends. At the end clear coat and polishing, as the decal disappears below the surface and the coat gains a wet shine.

Who the sheet is for

  • Builders of the Porsche 962 C kit from Hasegawa
  • Fans of Group C, of endurance racing and of the private teams of the 1980s
  • Collectors of famous sponsor liveries, as the orange one is impossible to overlook
  • Modelers who work with gloss clear coat, softener and coating over decals

The package contains decals only. This is not a kit, as the model of the car, paints, glue and clear coats are not part of the delivery.

FAQ

It is not. This is a decal sheet only. The Porsche 962 C kit from Hasegawa, paints and clear coats have to be obtained separately.

Yes. As a rule the sheet does not cover the whole body, so part of the area is sprayed and the shade of orange has to follow on from the decals, otherwise the boundary of the marking will show.

Because it was applied to a matte surface, as air stays under the carrier film. Always apply them over gloss clear coat, with softener on curved areas, and coat and polish them at the end.

The car with number 17 in this livery won the 1000 km of Spa-Francorchamps there. Spa is moreover considered one of the most beautiful circuits in the world thanks to the climbing Eau Rouge corner.
