About product

Studio27 1:24 decal sheet, Porsche 962C Leyton House, JSPC 1987

This is a standalone decal sheet from the Japanese maker Studio27 in 1:24 scale. It is NOT a kit. In the package you will find no plastic parts, no body and no wheels, as these are strictly markings. To use them you need a Hasegawa Porsche 962 kit of your own, to which the decals are applied. Anyone who buys the sheet without a model will have nothing to apply them to.

Leyton House and the Japanese JSPC championship

JSPC was the Japanese sports prototype championship, the domestic counterpart of European Group C. While Europe watched the world championship, in Japan a parallel, extraordinarily packed series ran with teams and sponsors of its own. Its flagship race was the 1000 km at Fuji, but it was also run at Suzuka. The Porsche 956/962 ruled here as supremely as anywhere else in the world: it was a customer car which Porsche sold to private teams, and that is exactly why so many of its liveries exist.

Leyton House was the brand of a Japanese real estate company and in motorsport it is unmistakable for its light blue to turquoise color. Fans know the same shade from Formula 1 as well, which Leyton House sponsored. On the hood of a Group C prototype that color looks even more striking, and it is exactly the livery nobody else at a show will have.

How to apply the decals so that it shows

  • A decal belongs on GLOSS clear coat. On a matte surface air is caught under the film and the decal silvers, which is the most common mistake and it destroys finished work.
  • The body of the 962 is one huge curved area. Without decal softener a marking will not settle and will make folds, so on a prototype softener is practically compulsory.
  • Once it is dry, spray it with clear coat and polish it, as the edge of the decal disappears and the surface gains a wet look.
  • You have to mix the basic color of the body yourself. The sheet does not cover the whole area of the car; the turquoise base has to be sprayed.

Who the sheet is for

For modelers who already have the Hasegawa Porsche 962 kit and want to build it as a particular car from a particular season, not as a variant from the box. Other Porsche 962 liveries exist as well, and collectors usually build several of them side by side.

The package contains decals only. The kit, paints, clear coat, softener and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. This is strictly a decal sheet. You need a Hasegawa Porsche 962 kit of your own to go with it, which you build, spray and only then mark.

The Japanese sports prototype championship, the domestic counterpart of Group C which ran parallel with the world championship. It had teams, sponsors and liveries of its own which never appeared in Europe; the high point of the season was the 1000 km race at Fuji.

Yes, and with gloss clear coat. On a matte surface air stays under the film and the decal starts to silver. On the curved body we also recommend decal softener and, once it is dry, a coat of clear.

No. The decals complement a sprayed base, as you have to mix and spray the basic color of the car yourself.
