1:24 Porsche 962C - Blaupunkt Super Cup 1989 Decals Set (for Hasegawa Kits)

Studio27 1:24 decal sheet, Porsche 962C Blaupunkt, Supercup 1989

This is NOT a kit. You are buying a decal sheet from the Japanese maker Studio27 in 1:24 scale, that is the markings alone, without a single plastic part. You will use them on the Hasegawa Porsche 962 kit, which has to be your own: the model is built and sprayed first, and the decals come at the very end.

Careful, this car did not race in Japan

Unlike most Studio27 sheets for the Porsche 962, which aim at the Japanese prototype championship JSPC, this one belongs elsewhere. The Supercup was a German series for Group C prototypes and the 1989 season was its last. If you are building a collection of Japanese liveries, be aware that this car does not belong in it thematically, and conversely, if you collect European Group C, it is exactly the one.

Blaupunkt is a German maker of car radios and audio equipment; its colors were carried by one of the strongest private teams of the era. The Porsche 956/962 was the dominant force of Group C and the most successful car of the endurance racing of its time. Because Porsche sold it as a customer car to private stables, it raced in dozens of different colors, and that is exactly why so many decal sheets exist. A kit from the box offers one or two liveries; a collector, though, wants that particular car from a particular race.

So that the decals last and are not visible

• The base has to be glossy. On matte clear coat a decal silvers, as air is trapped under the film. It is the most common mistake, which brings down even a superbly sprayed model.
• The hood of a prototype is one large curved area, so decal softener is practically a necessity here, otherwise the film will not lie down and will make folds.
• You spray the color of the body yourself; the sheet does not cover the whole car, it only complements a sprayed base.
• At the end clear coat and polishing, as the model gains a deep, wet look and the edges of the decals disappear.

Who the sheet is for

For modelers with the Hasegawa Porsche 962 kit who want the European version of Group C in the Blaupunkt colors. Other 962 liveries exist as well, including Japanese ones.

The package contains decals only. The model, paints, clear coat, softener and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
